FORMAT OF TOURNAMENTS

The following is a description of our four normally scheduled tournaments, the awards to winners of the various events, budgeting data and other information relative to the conduct of the competition.

The Association will hold four tournaments during the year.  These tournaments are generally held in the months of April, June, September, and November.  The tournament format will vary depending upon the number of entries and the location of the tournament. The formats we will be using are:

Individual Stroke, Dogfight Points, Four-man Two Best-Ball, and Two-man Best-Ball.

The September tournament has been designated as the annual championship tournament. The format for this event has been modified slightly and will consist of the following:
The first day of the tournament will be a team event (Four-man Two Best-Ball or a Two-man Best-Ball).  The second day of the tournament will be a net/gross event flighted by handicap.  Sixteen players with the lowest gross score, plus the overall champion from the previous year will continue to play for the championship on the 3rd morning.  The championship will be a 36 hole event.
The Tournament Announcements are mailed to all members about 30 days prior to the first day of the meet.

   Tie- Method for Determining Winner

    CHAMPIONSHIP:
Playoff from No. 1 tee – Sudden Death
    ALL OTHER EVENTS:
    In accordance with USGA recommendations

     Awards

    CHAMPIONSHIP:
Sterling Julep Cup to the Champion, gift certificates for second and third places
    ALL OTHER EVENTS:
Gift certificates for the first, second, and third place winner.  Depending on the size of the field and the amount of prize money available, fourth place may be paid.

     Handicaps

For those members whose Country Club is a member of the Alabama Golf Association, a GHIN number has been obtained which will allow the Secretary to obtain the most recent handicap indexes available through the GHIN system. The indexes obtained from this system will be used to determine the handicap used during this tournament.  If the member feels the handicap being used is incorrect, he needs to present the Secretary with a written statement from his club professional as to why the GHIN  system index is incorrect and provide an updated index.  All discrepancies will be resolved by the golf committee. All other handicaps will be verified the member home course.
